Digital Painting
One of my entries into the C.A. competition “Newborn/To Life”
This idea is a girl bringing a character from a book to life. Possibly to help her rid herself of bullies or as a fitting companion. The runes on the ground are a hint of the magic taking place.

My interpretation of the character Jack West Jr from Mathew Rilley’s book the Seven Ancient Wonders and the Six Sacred Stones.
The character is an ex-soldier and an Indiana Jones type who lost his left arm to lava. His friend known as ‘Wizard’ rebuilt him a super bionic arm to replace it.
I have illustrated him carrying one of the ’sacred stones’ a long crystal pillar like quartz wrapped up in a leather shroud. Jack is a keen climber hence the modified climbing gear around his waist. I chose not to focus to much on the background, the environment is loosely based upon the corridors inside Khafre’s pyramid (the great pyramid) in Egypt.
These books are Indiana Jones meets the Da Vinci code, and are very good if you like action adventure stories.
Below is my interpretation of Zoe Kissane, part of Jack’s team throughout the series.

This is my Halloween book.
My idea was to do a spell book working with the spell Shakespeare wrote for a certain play… begins with M, …you know…that one!

the first page of the “spell book”
I wanted to create an organic feel as if the witch has recorded this herself with sketches and notes, the odd object stuck in too.
